This chilling paranormal thriller series enters the world of the dead to answer questions about the living. Robert Bridge is a psychology lecturer grieving the loss of his son Josh who was killed in a car accident. A specialist in the study of mediums, Robert's teaching work brings him into conflict with Alison Mundy, a far cry from the frauds and attention-seekers he is accustomed to. She has seen spirits since childhood and after a near-death experience they have taken over her life. Now driven by a compulsion to help those around her, Alison seeks to resolve relationships torn apart by death. The troubled medium and the even more troubled psychologist embark on a journey together, neither knowing where it will lead...

"At last I can put my hand on my heart and give an unqualified cheer to a new primetime British drama series... Terrific television" The Guardian
"Set to be one of those riveting shows that you watch with one hand over your eyes. Stephen Volk (has) set up a brilliant, simmering tension between the reluctant medium and her arrogant, but troubled critic" Daily Star
"Pull your sofa a few feet away from the wall before you watch the next episode because you'll need somewhere to hide" Matt Bayliss, Daily Express
"Unmissable" Mail on Sunday
"A taut and snappy spine tingler... High quality supernatural drama" Alison Graham, Radio Times
"Afterlife is a particularly intelligent and brilliantly effective part of the apparent post-millennial upsurge in ghost stories" Steven Savile (Fantastic TV)
"Afterlife was a game-changer for me. To watch a series unfold that so defiantly defeated the notion that supernatural drama was moribund was a joy beyond measure. The seamless blend of creepy horror, heart breaking tenderness, all over the background hum of such serious intellectual exploration on the nature of life and death, secured this exquisitely written gem its place as a milestone in British television drama. to say I loved it is the understatement of the century. I savoured every single gripping. tragic and beautiful minute of it. The only thing I hated is that Stephen Volk wrote it and I didn't. The utter bastard." Muriel Gray
"An amazing and wonderful show, deep and emotional - a true original" Mick Garris

Alison is tracked down by the survivors of the terrible train crash that she was involved in several years ago. She is asked by their leader, Irene Moser, to conduct a séance to help them communicate with their lost loved ones. Alison confides to Robert that she is terrified to revisit the past where she so nearly died. Will it, as Irene promises, provide her with much needed closure, too? Or will it enable Death, so narrowly avoided, to have a second chance?
